Deftones' Chino Moreno Opens Up About Side Project Crosses

Deftones' Chino Moreno Opens Up About Side Project Crosses

Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno has finally revealed more details about his side project Crosses.

The project is said to be a calmer version of Deftones, but with some elements of the original band still present – their first release is set to be an album covering Deftones songs in their new style.

"It's really minimal and soothing and it's sort of like the stuff I like listening to when I'm not screaming my head off,"Moreno says.

"We've talked about playing a certain record in certain cities, we're going to get into some of those songs and see what happens."

The newly formed band features Giant Drag frontman Annie Hardy, as well as Shaun Lopez, the former Far guitarist.

Moreno also spoke about the material they had been producing, revealing the group already has 16 tracks written, but then also went on to talk about the touring side of the band.

“We don't have any plans to play live, but we might release a series of EPs on our own on the net."

The band’s album ‘Covers’, consisting entirely of Deftones covers, will see light on April 16th.

Fleet Foxes Discuss Recording Problems With‘Helplessness Blues’

Fleet Foxes Discuss Recording Problems With‘Helplessness Blues’

Fleet Foxes have revealed that they faced various problems with the recording of their second LP,‘Helplessness Blues’, confessing that they were forced to re-record the majority of the release after initial mixes were underwhelming.

The follow-up to their acclaimed self-titled debut was initially chalked for a release date in 2010, however the album was delayed due to the band members not being happy with the finished material. Speaking toUncut, singer Robin Pecknold said:"When we did the first mix of the album it was like, 'This is where we're at, not where we want to be.'"

He continued:"I felt there were things that could be improved. I wasn't being precious about it. I wanted the album finished and out as much as anyone. But as soon as we started retooling one or two of the tracks, that opened the floodgates."

The Fleet Foxes singer went on to assert that he would never bow down to record label pressure and release something prematurely:"There was absolutely no chance I was going to ever put out something that I wasn't totally convinced was as good as it could possibly be. I didn't care how many times we had to re-record stuff."

‘Helplessness Blues’ is currently scheduled for release on May 2nd in the UK. You can listen to ‘Battery Kinzie’, a track from ‘Helplessness Blues’ below:

Introducing... Mann

Introducing... Mann

Californian rap-newcomer Mann has arrived on UK shores with his first British single release.

Mann, the 19-year-old LA native seamlessly slides through genres with swagger and substance on his debut single ‘Buzzin’ which is out now."Buzzin,"bounces from a club-ready beat into an undeniable hook, while showcasing the rapper’s unique flow.

For Mann,"Buzzin"is an invitation for listeners to party with him. Based on producer J.R. Rotem's {Britney Spears, Rihanna} chopped 'n' screwed sample of the Nu Shooz classic"I Can't Wait,""Buzzin"is a hyper-charged anthem that you can bump on the dance floor or in your car. Mann explains,"It's got a West Coast bounce, but it's still universal. I really want to make music that everybody can love. I'm in the business of making songs. I rap when it's time to rap, and I sing when it's time to sing. I keep it hip hop, but I also make it pop enough for the masses."

The Toniks To Release Debut Single 'You& I' On April 4th

The Toniks are delighted to announce that they have joined forces with Tony Britton former Echo& The Bunnymen manager and their debut single 'You And I' is released on 4th April.

Since getting together in their present line-up a year ago this Guildford band they have been in high demand gigging in London and the South East, building a loyal following. Before even their first gig had a Number 1 and Number 3 in the People's Choice charts. With support from respected industrycontacts like Graham Dominy (Eurythmics, Dave Stewart, Razorlight, and Imelda May) who, liking their sound, gave them free studio time for their first CD, they have, after being likened to such groups as Blur, The Lightening Seeds, The Feeling, Squeeze, Ocean Colour Scene, and The Small Faces, beenable to make their music stand for itself as original empathetic pop songs.

The Toniks have also become synonymous for their commitment to supporting charities such as a local children's hospice and Oxjam, giving their time very generously and enthusiastically in these projects.

These hardworking and charismatic artists are back in the Studio to complete their debut album for release later this year.

Mercury Records To Stop Release Of Physical Singles

Mercury Records To Stop Release Of Physical Singles

Mercury Records has announced that the company will be stopping the production of physical singles. The label, which is home to the likes of The Killers, Arcade Fire, Pixie Lott and U2 has revealed that they will no longer be producing physical singles (both CD and Vinyl) except on“rare occasions”.

The company suffered a financial loss on single releases last year, and have now claimed that they will only be producing physical versions of singles in rare cases when a track “is guaranteed to make a profit”.

A spokeswoman for the company said:"For the past couple of years we have released physical singles only when there is demand. With physical formats now accounting for just over 1% of the overall singles market we are being more cautious."

She added:"That said, physical singles are not disappearing and we will still release them when there is a demand."

Figures from the Official Chart Company earlier this year confirmed that the physical purchase of singles has been on the decline in recent years. In the past five years sales of 7” singles have fallen from over 1 million to just 152,000 in 2010 – an 85% drop.

Take That Stars Fighting The Flab For Summer Stadium Tour

Take That Stars Fighting The Flab For Summer Stadium Tour

Take That duo Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow aren’t ones to let a challenge go by, and have decided to go head to head in a competition – to see who can lose the most wait before their tour!

Gary was the first to decide to go on a diet, after deciding to get in shape for the massive, record-breaking upcoming Take That tour, either to look good on stage or to stop him physically dying after the huge shows they have planned.

But then competitive Robbie found out what Gary was up to when Robbie had all the lads round his home in Los Angeles, and decided to take his pal on in a‘diet-off’.

Robbie said:“Gary and the boys were at my house in LA last week when Gary turns to me and says, ‘I won’t be needing these clothes soon, do you want them?’ ’cause he’s going on a diet.

“That was the day I thought, ‘Right, if you’re eating a lettuce, I’m eating half a lettuce’. There is now a serious game on to see who can get the thinnest for the tour.”

But it’s not a muscular, alpha-male physique that Robbie is going for – he’s in fact going for a more stick-figure size zero look. “You know The Machinist with Christian Bale? I’m going for Christian Bale.”

Take That McDonalds!

Osmo Arrives From Finland With First International Single And Album

Osmo Arrives From Finland With First Internation Single And Album

Conehead are delighted to announce that they will release the incendiary UK debut single and album from the hotly tipped Finnish performer Osmo. The single‘Heaven and Hell’ is released 22 May 2011 and the album ‘Heaven and Hell is Just a State Of Mind’ is out on 6 June 2011.

A cool slice of soulful Pop, ‘Heaven and Hell’ is the first UK release from the highly talented multi-instrumentalist and the entertaining video embedded below shows exactly how good he is – drums, keys, vocals, sax, violin, cello guitar and bass – at the same time!?

Bearing out his influences by the likes of Prince, Stevie Wonder and D’Angelo, Osmo nonetheless has his own style and swing which has evolved throughout his upbringing in an incredibly musical family in Central Finland. Osmo writes, performs and produces all of his own work. ‘Heaven and Hell is Just a State Of Mind’ is his second solo album and the first to be released internationally.

Osmo has been invited to make his UK live debut on 20th April 2011 at the Finnish Ambassador’s Residence in London – he will also perform the following day at the Scandinavian Kitchen on Great Titchfield Street , W1. “I cannot wait to visit London again and I look forward to meeting some new people at the showcase.” Hailing from the tiny village of Korpilahti in Finland , Osmo is nowestablishing himself on the musical scene in a big way, as well as his solo work he also tours extensively with Finnish stars Sunrise Avenue and also plays cello in a Finnish Grammy awarded jazz group – Oddarrang.

Osmo is a guy from the middle of nowhere with a huge talent and a knack for a killer tune.“I come from the smallest place imaginable. What you hear is me, nothing else and I really want people to love it.”

Big Country to Release New Compilation‘Fields of Fire’ Next Month

Big Country to Release New Compilation‘Fields of Fire’ Next Month

Reformed Scottish rockers Big Country are to release a new compilation album entitled‘Fields of Fire – The Ultimate Collection’ on 18th April. The album, which is named after the band’s original Top 10 single and taken from their 1983 debut album ‘The Crossing’, features all of the hits from their 20-year career, as well as a selection of rarities. The reformed Big Country line-up, which includes former Alarm singer Mike Peters on lead vocals, are to coincide the release of ‘Fields of Fire’ with a full UK tour. See below for dates.

Big Country were founded in 1981 by former Skids frontman Stuart Adamson and went on to record eight albums between 1983 and 1999. Their most successful album was their debut ‘The Crossing’, which has been certified Gold in both the UK and the US since its 1983 release. However, their subsequentthree albums, including 1984’s Number One hit ‘Steeltown’, were also very successful in the UK and gave the band a number of Top 10 singles during the ’80s.

Big Country’s 20-year career came to a tragically abrupt end in 2001, when Adamson passed away following the band’s final tour. In 2007, the remaining members decided to celebrate the singer’s memory and the 25th anniversary of Big Country with a reunion tour, with bassist Tony Butler taking over on lead vocals. Last year, they returned once again, this time with The Alarm’s Mike Peters for a New Year’s Eve performance in Glasgow. They have since followed the success of that show with a 30th anniversary tour earlier this year and have now announced further dates for April. They are also due to playthe Isle of Wight festival on Friday 10th June.

The new album will be there follow up to their massive debut album‘Sigh No More’, which has helped see Mumford and Son exceed sales of one million – prompting the band to work with the same producer on there latest LP.

Markus Dravs was a big help for the band when recording there debut release, and Lovett is full of praise for the producer, saying“He's really good at bringing a little bit of structure and order to very disorganised minds. I think we could perhaps record it ourselves, but we'd get lost in our own sorts. “

Mumford and Sons recently collaborated with Bob Dylan for a duet at the Grammy Awards last month, with Lovett admitting"It was a huge honour. We'd been asked a few weeks earlier but they were like, 'We haven't confirmed who it is that you're going to be collaborating with.' It could have been anyone. But they said, 'Trust us, you won't be disappointed.' They were right."

Panic! At The Disco Release Short Film‘The Overture’

Panic! At The Disco Release Short Film‘The Overture’

Panic! At The Disco have proved that they are very much back to their old theatrical ways through a new short film entitled‘The Overture’. The video features extended clips of four new songs from the band’s upcoming LP ‘Vices& Virtues’, scheduled for release on March 28nd in the UK.

The video is not likely to be nominated for an Oscar anytime soon, with lead singer Brendon Urie and drummer Spencer Smith lending their acting talents to the obscure project. The film depicts the two band members recruiting quirky townspeople for a trip, packing their possessions and eventually facing obstructions along the way. The bizarre extended metaphor is the band’s latest offering from ‘Vices& Virtues’ since they released their lead single ‘The Ballad of Mona Lisa’ last month.

‘Vices& Virtues’ is the first full-length release from the band’s two-man line-up of singer Brendon Urie and drummer Spencer Smith after guitarist Ryan Ross and bassist Jon Walker left the band in July 2009.

The band posted the video on their website yesterday, saying:“We're proud to present to you The Overture, a short film directed by our friend Shane Drake featuring clips of four new songs off our upcoming album Vices& Virtues. Hope you enjoy and let us know what you think!”

You can watch the video for‘The Overture’ below:

Brian McFadden"Sick" Over Single Criticism

Brian McFadden"Sick" Over Single Criticism

Brian McFadden has confessed that he feels“sick” over the criticism that he has received surrounding the release of his latest single. The ex-Westlife singer wasrecently criticisedas reviews insinuated that his current single,‘Just The Way You Are (Drunk At The Bar)’ promoted “date rape” through its controversial lyrics.

However, McFadden has recently stated that the allegations have made him feel “sick”. The singer has continually denied the claims that his song promotes anything illicit, but has now promised to donate all profits from the single to a charity which supports victims of sexual abuse.

Speaking on his Twitter page, McFadden said:"Feel sick that my single is getting so much attention for the wrong reason. I love making music but I do not want this song played on radio or sold to profit myself if people think it's about date rape. It's not about date rape.

"I'm gonna give all my profits from the song...to victims of rape. Because it disgusts me. Sorry people misunderstood my lyrics. someone let me know a worthy charity who supports victims. And finally... my song is supposed to be fun... not offensive...guess not everyone has the same sense of humour.

He continued:"This is not a publicity stunt...so don't think I'm backing down and agreeing. I just wouldn't give the haters the pleasure."

Arctic Monkeys Post New Song‘Brick By Brick’ Online – Listen Now

Arctic Monkeys Post New Song‘Brick By Brick’ Online – Listen Now

Arctic Monkeys have revealed a new track online. The Sheffield-born band posted a new song,‘Brick By Brick’ on their YouTube channel last night. The track is an impressive first taste of their post-‘Humbug’ direction, fusing guitar-led atmospherics with a repetitive chorus line.

'Brick By Brick' seems to be receiving fairly good reviews from fans, with over 150,000 views in just over 12 hours. Many have been quick to note the 60s vibe on the track, which is believed to be included on their as-of-yet untitled fourth studio album.

The video is admittedly not the most inventive thing in the world, focusing mostly on a record being turned on and spinning as it plays. The band are notably absent from the promo, appearing only briefly in silhouette on a beach before the video moves on to a number of American landscape shots.

The video also features a number of shots from the band’s American studio. Arctic Monkeys are currently in Los Angeles, recording the follow-up to 2009’s ‘Humbug’. They are said to be working with producer James Ford (of Simian Mobile Disco fame).

You can listen to‘Brick By Brick’ below:

Britney Spears To Release‘Till The World Ends’ Today – Listen Now

Britney Spears To Release‘Till The World Ends’ Today – Listen Now

Britney Spears has been playing the promotion game wisely with her upcoming release,‘Femme Fatale’. The singer and producer Dr. Luke have been leaking 20-30 second snippets of tracks on Twitter, whetting fans’ taste for the new release song by song.

However, yesterday afternoon another track, ‘Till The World Ends’ leaked online in its entirety. The song has received positive reviews so far, with fans praising its eurotrash dance feel and anthemic cut-and-paste chorus line. Spears acknowledged the leak herself yesterday, posting on Twitter:"Looks like the cat's out of the bag..."

Listen to‘Till The World Ends’ here:

While the leaked version of the track sounds like the finished product, Spears then continued to promise that she would play the final version of the song in its entirety on the Ryan Seacrest show this morning (March 4th).

According toBillboard, Spears’ record label Jive Records have confirmed that they will be rush-releasing the song through the iTunes store tomorrow to counter the inevitable illegal downloads that would occur when a song from a high-profile artist like Spears leaks. Although no physical release is planned, the digital sales alone could make Spears a contender for next week’s Number One spot with her second single from ‘Femme Fatale’.

Dragonforce Reveal New Vocalist

Dragonforce Reveal New Vocalist

UK based metal heroes Dragonforce announced that their long search for a new vocalist is finally over. After entries from thousands of hopefuls across the globe, the shredmasters supreme welcome 23 year old Marc Hudson to the band to fill the boots left by ZP Theart, who parted ways with the band in March of last year.

“I'm really excited about being a part of the DragonForce family.” Says Marc. “It's always been my dream to dedicate my life to making music. I'm going to bring all the power and emotion I can to the songs, and help make the killer new record the fans have been waiting for!”

Born in Oxford England, Marc was picked from the thousands of applications via a number of impressive video auditions and live performances, which left the rest of the band in no doubt that they’d found their man. Since the age of 16, Marc has been building his vocal skills gigging with bands in the UK underground scene, developing a powerful style with influences which include Bruce Dickinson, Michael Kiske and Sebastian Bach. Says founding member and guitarist Herman Li:

“After almost a year of searching around the globe, it's great to be able to finally tell our fans the good news. Marc's expressive and melodic vocals are sounding phenomenal on the new songs, adding another dimension to the DragonForce sound that I am sure all the fans will love.”

The band has been working on a new album since early 2010, recording in various studios in California, London and the South of France. The follow up to 2008’s hugely successful “Ultra Beatdown” album will be highly anticipated, with top 10 and top 20 chart positions all over the world and a Grammy Nomination in the United States setting the precedent. With Marc brought into the fold, the band is enjoying an injection of enthusiasm and hunger that sees Dragonforce to return more focused and determined than ever before.

“Everyone in the band is extremely excited about how the new material is shaping up.” continues Herman. “We haven't felt this kind of energy in the band for a long time. We can't wait to unleash the next DragonForce album later this year.”

The new album is expected to hit the shelves in September, with a full world tour to follow.

Check out a video clip of Marc Hudson’s audition demo below:
