Bloc Party Reunite For Christmas

London alternative rockers Bloc Party have reunited for the festive season, it has emerged. The band posted a picture of themselves together on their official Twitter page, twitter.com/thisisblocparty.

The band (which consists of singer Kele Okereke, guitarist Russell Lissack, bassist Gordon Moakes and drummer Matt Tong) uploaded the picture, showing all four members, a couple of gold and platinum albums and an uncomfortable looking puppy as a Christmas message to their fans.

Bloc Party have been on an official hiatus since the end of the touring cycle for their third release,‘Intimacy’. However, fans have begun to speculate that the London band may soon take up their instruments together once again after the unexpected post on Twitter.

The band have not been sitting idle for their hiatus: lead singer Okereke launched his own solo career with the release of his debut album‘The Boxer’, while bassist Gorden Moakes has been touring with the markedly heavier rock outfit, Young Legionnaire. Guitarist Russell Lissack has also been keeping busy: not only has he performed with his indie-electro side-project Pin Me Down, but Lissack has also become a touring member of Irishrockers Ash.

Their fourth release will no doubt be a pivotal one for the art-rockers: fans were divided after the increasingly electronic sound of their second and third LP’s, a tone which has been encapsulated and stretched in Okereke’s debut solo release. However, Bloc Party have also picked up a new legion of admirers through their dancefloor-friendly electronic sound, with hits including ‘The Prayer’, ‘Mercury’ and the hugely successful ‘Flux’.

Green Day To Release Live Album

Punk-rock super group Green day have announced that they will release a new live-show album in 2011.

The DVD is apparently set to be titled ‘Awesome as F*ck’, and is lined up for a March 15th release date. The DVD was filmed on the band’s massive summer 2010 tour, and is one of the band’s most memorable and greatest tours in their long history – leaving it no surprise that they have decidedto release it as an album.

Lead singer Billie-Joe Armstrong had already announced before the start of the tour that they would be recording the shows, and hinted that they would be released as the next album after 2009’s hit release ‘21st Century Breakdown’ – his twitter read"We've been recording our live shows since the beginning of tour, possible live album coming”. It will also be there first live album release since 2006 release ‘Bullet in a Bible’.

During the summer expedition the band also played out a new single– ‘Cigarettes and Valentines’ – which may prompt a release, or perhaps an appearance on the new album. You can see their live version of the new single below.

Black Eyed Peas Play New Years Show For Roman Abramovich

R&B supergroup Black Eyed Peas are set to play a special New Year’s concert for Chelsea Football club owner Roman Abramovich, it has been reported.


The Russian billionaire has offered to fly the group to his seventy-acre private Caribbean island, St. Barts. The band will then perform to a private crowd including Abramovich, his girlfriend Dasha Zhukova, his daughter Anna and a select group of friends and celebrities.

Abramovich, who currently stands as the 50th richest person in the world, is also said to be spending millions on a lavish spread of food and drink for the lucky guests. The billionaire has chosen to have the bash on his private island, despite taking the delivery of the world’s largest yacht in early December.

However, the band will have to do well to top last year’s celebrations: Abramovich saw in 2010 on St. Barts with a host of famous faces including Jay-Z, Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom and Kanye West. Beyonce is said to have performed at the event.

Meanwhile, frontman Will.i.am has revealed that he plans to release a collaboration with X Factor contestant Cher in the near future. Speaking on Twitter, the Black Eyed Peas star sent Cher a message stating:“@CherLloyd hey cher, when should we release the song we recorded in london???...(Its a smasher)”. Will.i.am also followed the post up less than an hour later, clearing up any confusion by saying: “The day after the last xfactor...cher loyd and I went in the studio and made a mega smasher...”

Take That Top UK Albums Chart For The Sixth Consecutive Week

Take That have managed to remain at the top of the UK Albums chart for the sixth week in a row. The British boyband will spend another week at Number One with their latest album,‘Progress’ after having sold just over 430,000 copies in the past week.

The band broke first-week sales records when the album came out in November, however the Take That boys have now exceeded expectations by selling over two million copies to date. Rihanna came in at Number Two with her latest release, ‘Loud’. The album was released on the same week as Take That’s ‘Progress’, but has been held back into second place every week by the British boyband.

Other artists who have done well during the Christmas season include Olly Murs, who earned Number Four with his self-titled album and Michael Buble, who remained at Number Three, earning his sixty-second week in the Albums chart with‘Crazy Love’.

X Factor winner Matt Cardle has retained his place at the top of the UK Singles chart with‘When We Collide’. The song, which is a renamed pop rendition of Biffy Clyro’s ‘Many of Horror’ managed to outsell ‘What’s My Name’ by Rihanna (featuring Drake), which earned the Number Two place.

The highest new entry was earned by Katy B (featuring Ms. Dynamite), who debuted at Number Four with her single‘Lights On’.

Taylor Swift Keeps Susan Boyle Off The US Christmas Top Spot

British singer Susan Boyle was narrowly kept from earning her second consecutive US Christmas Number One this week, after being knocked off the top spot by Taylor Swift.

The ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ star had been set to earn the coveted festive Number One place on the US Billboard chart, having been at Number One for four non-consecutive weeks in the run-up to Christmas with her second album, ‘The Gift’. However, Taylor Swift managed to return to the top spot after a five-week absence, outselling the Scottish singer by only 5,000 copies with her latest album, ‘Speak Now’. It is the third time that Swift’s latest album has been at Number One since its release in late October.

It was believed by many to be a three-horse race as Michael Jackson was set to enter the charts with his posthumously released album,‘Michael’. However, the album failed to meet record executives predicted sales of 400,000 copies, selling only 228,000 in the first week. Despite the relatively poor American sales, the record managed to top the chart in Germany, The Netherlands, Italy and Sweden.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift will be making a special appearance on the Rachael Ray Show, set to air just after the New Year. In a preview of the show, the Pennsylvanian singer is shown answering audience questions, hugging euphoric fans and generally being treated like a modern day Jesus.

Tourbus Fire At London’s O2 Arena Threatens Tonight’s Kings Of Leon Gig

Twelve fire engines and over sixty firefighters have been called to London’s O2 Arena this morning to tackle a tourbus fire. The incident comes on the day when Kings Of Leon are set to play a sold-out show at the large London venue.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade announced:"It is very much an on-going incident at the moment. We have 12 fire engines and around 60 fire fighters."

Earlier this morning Fire Brigade station manager Sally Cartwright said:"Two tour buses are on fire within a loading bay at the O2 Arena. Sixty firefighters are working hard to bring the blaze under control. Our crews are doing a fantastic job, especially given the levels of smoke down here which has lead to quite challenging conditions."It has not yet been made clear if the tour buses in question belong to Kings of Leon.

A London Ambulance Service member said:"We were called just before 0845 to reports of a fire near the 02 arena in Greenwich. We sent an ambulance crew, a hazardous area response team, a support vehicle and a duty officer. Our staff have treated six patients for smoke inhalation but at this stage no one has needed further treatment in hospital."

Members of the Fire Brigade were called to the scene at 8.18 this morning, but the cause of the fire is still unknown. A spokeswoman for the O2 has said that the venue had been evacuated, and an assessment will now take place regarding tonight’s gig. She said:"The fire is under control and no injuries reported. Assessments are currently under way and we expect to make a decision in the next couple of hours as to whether tonight's Kings of Leon show will go ahead.”

Fans have been encouraged to check theO2 Arena websitewhich will be updated with news as soon as it happens.

MY HERO IN KUWAIT

We played for the troops last night in Kuwait. What a humbling experience. Had such a blast… and my blue sparkly Marilyn Monroe suit seemed to go over well! Ha! Here’s a video one of the soldiers took of us playing our cover of“My Hero” by the Foo Fighters. This is the first time we’ve ever played the song full band!
